Season 8

Task #4
PAY
HOMAGE
NOW!!!
Before I brief you on your next task, I want to thank you for partaking in Snawlterm and sticking it out with me. I know from experience that playing LTs can be stressful and draining. Thank you for being here and trying your best. You are one step closer to the grand prize.

It's Week 4, which means it's time for music videos! A tradition in Snawlterm as well as other LTs, this is the week you must design an outfit inspired by the fashion, tone, textures, or aesthetic of one of the provided music videos.

This time however, there is a caveat. All 3 of these music videos are filmed in black & white, therefore, everybody's outfits this week will be photographed and judged in black & white! You can use as many colours while designing your outfit, but the end product will be presented in B&W. To give you an idea of what this'll look like, below is an example of the process I will use on your outfits.
*Please Note: There is no capacity limit to the music videos! Everybody can choose whichever video they prefer, and can switch at any time.

Outfit upon submission
Final product at panel
%20(1).png)
Now that you can see the editing process, you must use blacks, whites, & colour to make an outfit that relates to your chosen video, and looks stunning when converted to grayscale.

I am willing to provide each contestant with ONE free photo edit for those who want to see what their outfit looks like in grayscale prior to submitting. If you want more than one edit, do it yourself by going into any free photo editor and cranking the saturation down to -100% as pictured above (or ask someone else to do it for you.)
When submitting your outfit, submit it unedited. Let me do the grayscale editing, please & thank you.
The due date for this task is Monday, December 12th at 8:00PM EST.
Good luck, you'll need it!

Panel
Welcome to panel #4 of Season 8. Once again I am very happy with the quality of outfits submitted this week by the lot of you. The music video task always proves to be challenging, and this installment was no exception. However, for the past four seasons I've implemented it, I think this here may very well be the best outcome - meaning the strongest outfits at panel. Congratulations!

Despite the incredibly strong average, some of you still missed the mark. Those of you who missed, missed pretty dramatically. It is because of that, I've decided to make this round a double elimination. I said at the beginning of this competition that double eliminations can happen at any time without warning. When several of you don't bring your A-game to panel and the opportunity presents itself to me, I will use it to knock out two of you to speed the game up. I apologize to the two eliminated contestants, however, you were given ample warnings. All 11 of you are fantastic, however, some of you simply aren't yet ready to win a longterm, and that's okay. Season 8 doesn't have to be the end of the road for any of you, so don't let it.
Alright, it's time for me to do what I do best.
Let's see which of you pumped the crowd up, and who got their necks violently snapped by a cane yanking them off the stage.
Group #1
Flint Eastwood - "Monster"
[2018]
Starring. . . Peyton & Max

Peyton125
(Peyton)
Snawl: Unlike your contestants who all had direct inspirations for their outfits this week, it looks like you tried to summarize your entire video into your outfit. Honestly, I kinda like it. The head accessories are easily the most interesting part of the outfit, but my eyes enjoy the striped cloth atop the '20s blouse, it's a good contrast. The backpack straps would be distracting if this weren't in black & white, so well done on realizing that. The shoes are a bit boring, however. As nice as this outfit is, it doesn't blow me back with excitement. As these weeks wind down and the number of contestants shrinks with every passing round, the outfits are only going to get more & more creative and risky. You need to start creating outfits from bigger ideas NOW before you get swallowed up by the competition. Thanks, Peyton.

Okeefinokee
(Max)

Snawl: I appreciate the level of risk-taking you brought upon your submission this week. There are some rather interesting clusters of detail: the buckles behind your apron, the grays on your dress and shoes, the curvature of the chains brought on by the hand movement. However, given your source material, not to mention the level of talent you possess, I think this could be a lot, lot better. The head accessories are rather lame and seem like a missed opportunity. All of the fabrics you used for this outfit are varying shades of pitch black or dark green, which just isn't that interesting on a B&W task. This outfit has a fierce aura to it and I could maybe see it run in an ad campaign for some limited edition perfume. As a runway outfit, it leaves a lot to be desired. Thank you for taking risks, but I wish they were better calculated.
Group #2
Phantogram - "Fall In Love"
[2014]
Starring. . . Nicole, Zoetic, Xav, Nate, Elysse, & Marq

nicrobbo95
(Nicole)
Snawl: Amazing. I don't condone trying to summarize an entire music video in one outfit, but you managed to get away with it swimmingly. You understood this task probably better than anyone, because you're using the B&W presentation to breathe life into items and clothing that are otherwise pretty common and boring. That cape is such a gorgeous pairing for the geometric pants because of how the dots at the bottom line up seamlessly. That necklace, the cyberpunk head accessory, the pixelated chest skull icon, it's all astounding. The only complaint I have is for the headband, it's a bit blocky and I would have welcomed something more in tune with the rest of the clothing. Besides that, you murdered this task. I'm extremely impressed by you.

Slur
(Zoetic)

Snawl: *Mr. Smithers voice* Excellent. What I love so much about this outfit is how it looks so simple at a first glance, but it's actually incredibly complex. The video you chose has just as many curves and swirls as it does boxes, lines, and dots. You commemorated textures most of your competitors looked over by building that blobitecture-like foundation with the subtle gray ombre, and as a result, you've achieved something that stands alone and looks nothing like anything anyone else could have done. The prezzie shoes and the broken box silhouette around your left half are such an interesting concept, yet in retrospect they seem so obvious for the video. This is another phenomenal outfit, and in case anyone was wondering if your masterpiece last week was somehow a fluke, you just proved it wasn't. A+

Xav.Smi712
(Xav)
Snawl: In Project Runway, it's never enough to merely wear items, you have to design with them. You paired the geometric top with the geometric pants - a combination so obvious they share the same name. The ensuing accessories you add to the outfit desperately try to carry the geometric pattern instead of breaking it up or reinventing it. Your shoes are the only part of this outfit I find remotely interesting. You also fumbled your outfit advice: I recommended portraying the entire spectrum of black, grays, & white. Instead, you changed every item in your draft that was gray, to white. Although this outfit undeniably matches your video, you've failed to really "design" anything original or worthy of attaching your name to. I know you tried really hard this week, but perhaps your inexperience has shown too brightly, Xav.

Pine
(Nate)

Snawl: What I admire so much about this outfit is that you are using the B&W presentation of this task to reinvent items that are otherwise tired. The bead necklace and tree chest icon work brilliantly well together because there are no ugly greens & browns on the chest icon ruining the palette. The head accessories are goofy, but a fierce and interesting type of goofy. They make me want to see more. I enjoy how this outfit's main graphics seem "pushed to the left" which in a way reflects the clusters of detail in the video. You picked a very specific frame to model your outfit after and I must say you did it justice. The loose squiggles, the barren wasteland that is the dress, it's all quite nice. Definitely the type of comeback performance you needed after last week. Well done, Nate!

LC22
(Elysse)

Snawl: Prioritizing shapes over graphics was a very interesting choice, and I low key wish more contestants did that this week. This outfit immediately reminds me of Kansai Yamamoto - a renowned Japanese fashion designer responsible for some truly crazy silhouettes. The shoulder pads and kimono sleeves work really well together, and the overall design on your back is very in vogue with your video, but unique enough to stand alone as a well informed interpretation. I only have one flaw with this outfit, but unfortunately for you it's a big one because it takes up so much space. I hate those heels! I have a hard time tolerating them front-on, but from behind they look absolutely horrid. They look like jellyfish tentacles. They're ruining the entire outfit for me, take them off! AHHH! I'm sorry El.

EagerGamin
(Marq)

Snawl: You were very resourceful in making your outfit this week. You approached designing with an unprecedented loyalty to detail, and it has paid off dramatically because this is your strongest outfit yet. The magic of this outfit is all in the patterns. I love the almost television static pattern dominating the entire top half. The black straps on your shoulders are a bit cheesy and intrusive, but they're easily forgiven. I also enjoy how this outfit seems to have a vertical ombre illusion. I wish you chose pants that were as fuzzy and chaotic as the top half, but I can't fault the choice either as they do still manage to convey the aesthetic. Overall, a very interesting and unique take on a music video that had a lot of obvious and accessible patterns. Thank you for taking the road less travelled.
group #3
Lykke Li - "Get Some"
[2010]
Starring. . . Elise, Elobstabeth, & Lee

fupaqueen
(Elise)

Snawl: It's unhealthy how much I am in love with this outfit. Using the rainbow wings on this task was a stroke of genius, and the nude effect splitting your abdomen to create this couture silhouette for your gown is really brilliant. I feel like it's a subtle nod to the outfit that got you eliminated early in FreshFaces (which I also loved). The wings flare outward, and that motion is then duplicated not once but twice with the head accessory and winged shoes. This is also one of the strongest examples of the Fuusio head pose glitch I've ever seen. This outfit plays directly into your music video but there's enough of an original spectacle to where it isn't mere copying. I wouldn't change a single thing about your performance this week. Excellent work, Elise! Please maintain this slew of high quality you've been delivering.

lobsterbiscc
(Elobstabeth)
Snawl: While this outfit does relate to the chosen video, I can't help but be very underwhelmed by it. The running shoes make little sense, and your dress is handled in a very bland, matter-of-a-fact way that elicits no excitement or awe. The most interesting portion of this presentation is easily the eyeballs, which I can't even judge because this is PR and if I were to judge your face then I'd have to judge everyone else's faces too. Nothing about the actual garments you are using is new, provocative, or tasteful. This is an out-of-place outfit, and it feels even more out of place coming from you, because you have been more or less killing this competition so far. Even your "low" scoring outfit last week I still loved. This however is beyond redeemable. I don't know what else to say, I'm just stunned really.

gnge
(Lee)

Snawl: Your song is called Get Some, and you know what I just might. I am astonished by the craftsmanship of this outfit. The level of detail on display is outrageously good. This outfit manages to capture both the loose fabrics of the scantily clad singer, as well as the messier details going on in the background. The way the earring just pairs flawlessly with the string tied in a bow at the back of the pearl necklace, my god. That had to have been intentional, I refuse to believe it wasn't. This is you at your strongest, and most innovative, Lee. Personally I would have loved to have seen some very small particles of black squished somewhere in the underlayer of the outfit just to give the grays & whites more depth of field. But that's honestly just me nitpicking. This is your strongest outfit in the competition so far. Stellar job!
Panel Conclusion
For the second week in a row, I am flabbergasted by the quality of submissions. At this point I simply don't want this game to ever end. How 'bout I divide the prize 11 ways, and we just make outfits together each week for a given task till the end of time? Congratulations to Elise (fupaqueen), you're the winner of this outstanding task. A round of applause for Zoetic (Slur) & Lee (gnge) who equally did amazing. As a matter of fact, well done to the Top 6 of this week, all of whom easily could have won this task with their outfits.
The Bottom Three
Elobstabeth (lobsterbiscc) - Something happened to you this week, and I don't know what it was. You were on fire up until this point. It seems like the inner CC demon took over and made you submit some non-fashion.
Max (Okeefinokee) - You took a lot of risks, some of which even paid off. However it seems your competitors were just operating on a slightly higher frequency thank you this week. You got blown out of the water.
Xav (Xav.Smi712) - The outfit you submitted is pretty to look at. But in a week wherein so many people blew the lid off my expectations, "pretty" just isn't enough. Being the least experienced of the cast seeks to have finally caught up to you.
This is a double elimination

Max (Okeefinokee), congratulations. You survive to design another day. I am always a great admirer of risk-taking. Your tenacity has saved you. However, let this be a wake-up call that I want to start seeing some next level stuff from you, otherwise you'll merely be left in the dust.
Xav & Elobstabeth... I understand this is painful, however that shouldn't cloud up the fact that the two of you truly held your ground in a game populated almost entirely by veterans & all-stars. Both of you have moments of greatness in this game that you should each be proud of. As awesome as the two of you are, this week's outfits made it clear to me that your fellow 9 competitors are just simply willing to take bigger risks. This isn't a definitive ranking, nobody here is better or worse than anyone else. Every LT plays out differently, and this is just how the chips fell this time 'round. I hope to see the two of you back in my shortterms very soon, as well as in future LTs hosted by my colleagues. You'd both make a great fit, and they'd be honoured to have either of you. Thank you for everything you 2 have done for Season 8.
Congratulations, final 9. You've made it to the Christmas holiday break!
Your 5th task will be uploaded in a few days with the due date set around the first week of 2023. Till then, relax & enjoy some family time!
