Week 3 - Panel
Panel is going to be done a little differently from now on: rather than judging you guys in alphabetical order, instead you guys are going to be judged in order of the completion of the task. That way, as soon as you finish being photographed, I can come here and judge you and get it out of the way which will save a dickload of time as opposed to waiting until the last day and critiquing 15 outfits. That shit takes hours. I would also like to apologize for the delayment of this panel. The Wix software was busted as fuck and would not let me upload certain photos.
This task was to see who can harness a good colour palette. Colours are often overlooked in Habbo fashion. People seem to think that if you have a good outfit, then colours don't matter. They couldn't be further away from the truth. I've seen people take generic outfits and warp them into masterpieces just by editing the colours. It is a difficult tactic, but a basic grasp is vital for success in this game. And since this is a high-stakes professional game, I threw in the avant-garde curveball into the task just to get you guys to be more creative. This task bugged the hell out of a lot of you and I apologize for that, but it's only going to get harder from this point on. I have the next 3 tasks planned out in my head, and they're NOT pretty.
Also in some weeks, the Set Performance category is going to be worth significantly more or less than in previoius weeks. The reason why it varies is because each week is different. Since you guys were all posing in a dark room with 1 furni, there will be NO Set Performance grading factor in this week's scores. However you will be graded on how well you interact with the furniture. Also since this is an artsy avant garde task, I offered very minimal help on set. It's impossible for me to give you outfit advice because avant garde is about taking what's in your head and duplicating it into fashion. I don't know what goes on in your guys' heads [and knowing some of you freaks, I don't want to find out] so I could only point out basic technical flaws.
With that all said, it's time to see who looks like a beautiful facsimile, and who is getting shipped off to the 2 for 1c shop.
First up is Jade

Whole Critique: Jade, not only is this your best photo so far, this might actually be the best photo of this entire competition so far. I love it. I love how you didn't just dance around certain colours; you used EVERY colour, and you used them to their exact proportions. Everything is matches flawlessly. ALL while being fashion-forward! Some people may argue that the outfit is too childish to be high fashion but I disagree, I think it is gorgeous. That maid's top is really pesky to use, but you've managed to reinvent it and it looks breathtaking. I knew you'd recover from last week's messy spill, and what better time to do it than a technical colour manipulating task? It's a near perfection. The only flaw is that I'd like to see some avant-garde-ness in the fabric, but since the colour palette is so divinely matched I am willing to say that the schemes are abnormal enough so I'll let it slide.
Pose: I love how you got down on the ground because it looks like the pony is towering over you, and that you're a lesser version of it. The two of you are working in complete harmony. Despite being a bright and frilly outfit, if any Habbo runway director saw this photo they'd probably demand to have it in their show... unless if it was being hosted by one of those cretins like Oxiez who don't know fashion and only likes messy, rugged and pretentious "art" pieces. But you should show this photo to Tukt so he can see how phenomenal his sweetie is doing in this competition.
Second up is Liberty

Whole Critique: FUCKING GENIUS! I am head-over-heels in love with this outfit. The sole reason that you chose that dress to showcase the light shimmer on the side of the candles. Honestly, this is fantastic! I maybe would've represented the flame a bit better on the top half but nevertheless this is art. I am struggling to find a flaw to slam you on because everything is just so perfect. I love how you left the tank top pitch black and didn't mess around with grey shades because it gives that solid, thick texture while the dress is sleeky and shiny. This looks posh, couture, and more importantly UNIQUE.
Pose: I like it because you're not standing TOO close to the candles. There's a distance between the two of you which allows the viewer to make a comparison. Not only is this your best performance to date, but I think this actually trumps all of the photos you took in Season 1. I knew you were going to nail this task because in Season 1 I constantly referred to you as the colour palette queen because most of your outfits featured colour elevation to the max. And now you just out-did yourself. This is truly fantastic. Outfits like these are why I still stick around in the fashion scene. Thank you Liberty!
Third up is Mike

Whole Critique: I think this is a very interesting outfit, but overall I am not super impressed. I think you grasped the task well. I love how you tried to represent not only the whiteness of the plate, but also the dullness of the silverware but it just doesn't come together. The scarf was a creative idea but it doesn't sit well with the rest of the outfit. This outfit looks like it was designed by two people arguing back and forth, and their hostility clashed together on this outfit. But on a brighter note I loved your lines and textures. You're a genius when it comes to picking edgy fabrics.
Pose: Despite the outfit being below par, the pose is actually really good. It is exceedingly well, especially since you're modelling with such a small furni. You managed to get close to it without looking too desperate. Overall this was a decent performance but it is not all-star quality. I KNOW you have what it takes to win this game. Your name practically litters my PR's winner sticky, and you almost got best photo last week but Skye and Bri edged you out by like half a percent. Let's hope this performance is just a slip, and not a long-term decline.
Nextly is Kayllah

Whole Critique: I think this is a nice outfit, but I was expecting a little more. The colours are integrated perfectly which is impressive since the palette on the furni was really vapid and difficult. However I think the textures could definitely use some more thought and creativity. The bottom half of the outfit is sort of the what-you'd-expect combination for an experimental jagged dress. I've seen it many times before. However the thing I REALLY love about your outfit is how the furni you chose is a Habboween furni, and I think your outfit totally embraces the haunted aspect. But in terms of textures, it looks like someone put the American flag through a wood chipper. There's much more to experimental fashion than just "Quick! Throw on as many sharp fabrics as you can!"
Pose: The pose is actually really great, and it works well with the cup. You look like you're leaning against it. Very impressive photo. If I wasn't so used to seeing some of these fabrics, I would take a look at this photo and agree that it is indeed fantastic. Because it is. It's very good. But you need to be a little more careful when you take the experimental route. Some things get played out really quick.
Next up is Joseph

Whole Critique: Joseph, you seem to be this season's crash & burn contestant. You have an uber amount of potential because you're so friggin' talented; your incorporation of fabrics in most of your outfits (like this one) are downright fantastic. However you completely botched this week BIG TIME. You're lucky that I am not judging Set Performances this week because yours was heinous. As for the outfit, I LOVE the top half. But the bottom is treacherously clashing. It looks like it belongs to a totally different outfit. The purpose of this task was to see who could mimick a colour palette, and its proportions, while still looking fierce, and you failed to do all 3. The proportions are all wrong. I only see a few pixels of grey on that trolley yet you coat 40% of your outfit in it? Also I love the creme you used on the front, but I don't see creme/beige anywhere near the trolley... unless you were going for more of a light brown pastel approach. But even then, it doesn't work.
Pose: If you survive this week, it's going to be because of your pose. Not only is it great, but you modelled AMAZINGLY on set. Literally 4/5 of your frames were perfection and could've easily made it on here. I chose this one because it looks like you're pushing up against the trolley. Fantastic photo, but the outfit totally fails to deliver. I really hope you survive this week because you have so much talent. I honestly believe you could win this game.
Rose is next

Whole Critique: This is what I call wasted potential. Like Week 2, you have such an amazing colour palette, great modelling, and a fantastic pose, but it all gets cancelled out because of your outfit! So in the end it all balances to a mediocre challenge score. The problem I have with the outfit is that it was a bit expected. The crooked belt and large leather coat are a very popular combination in Avant Garde tasks. But like Week 2, your colour palette is stunning but it goes to waste. Nevertheless I think you did a great job at manifesting the task in hand, and this IS your strongest performance so far. You are getting better as the game progresses, but do we have the time to wait for you?
Pose: Like I said, the pose is great. I love how you're leaning against the wall because you look like some woodland creature tangled in the vines who is trying to break free. This is definitely one of the most beautiful photographs of this week to just sit down and stare at, but this is also a fashion competition. Are you selling the outfit? I guess it depends if the client likes dark, mysterious costumes then sure.
Up next is Vicky

Whole Critique: For someone who was shitting themselves all week, you sure turned up and delivered some high-fashion horror. I love how you kept it simple, yet it still looks Avant Garde because you're using your whacky hair to your advantage. Also the stripes that ebb through the entire outfit make it look like a one-piece couture dress. This is very beautiful. You thought smart, you put fashion first, and you chose a furni that would best help you represent your idea. The only flaw worth pointing out is that I wish there were more of a prominent form of Avant Garde being showcased.
Pose: Your modelling was good and this photo proves so. I love how it's a chair, yet you choose to sit on the ground next to it. It gives the dramatic emotions of resentment; you look somewhat acrimonious towards the furni. That type of interaction is very powerful, so the fact that you can pull it off with an inanimate object is spectacular.
Joel is up next

Whole Critique: What the fuck? Joel, you home? This outfit looks like Joel was held back at school for detention and couldn't make it home, so he texted his 10 year old brother to go on his Habbo account and design an outfit for the task to hand it in on time. Seriously this is very underwhelming and I am just totally shocked that YOU, out of all people, designed this. You're known for being crazy-inventive with fabrics but this week you totally fell flat. I don't like the top head accessories because it looks very forced and contrived. To me, it reads too much "Look at my head accessories. Look at them! Did you see them? Oh God just PLEASE LOOK AT THE ACCESSORIES!" and everything else on the outfit is just generic and boring, with the exception of the chest detail, and the ribbon belt. I also see NO inspiration at all, from any approach. You could've done sooo many different things by taking inspiration from aquatic life or anything under water. But I will say I think you mimicked the colour palette fairly well.
Pose: You were SUPER slow on set, and the majority of your photos were boring. I like this one because you're glancing into the watery abyss, but it takes more than a subtle head-turn to make a photo captivating. After looking through at all of the photos completed so far, this one is very unmemorable in comparison and I keep having to scroll back down here to look at it and remind myself that Joel is still playing.
Bri is up next

Whole Critique: At first I didn't like this outfit but it's slowly growing on me. The biggest problem I have with this is not only the outfit, but the fact that you chose to mimic a black & white ball, possibly the easiest thing one could do for this task. However the way you feathered out the black and white is very creative. I love how each section of the outfit features both shades, yet they're blended differently. On the head, it's a blunt white-to-black but in the center it looks almost mixed. Very nicely done. Sadly, it is a bit underwhelming compared to your other photos. Also there isn't much avant garde happening. It may be abnormal and border-line experimental, but that doesn't mean it's avant garde. The only unique part of this outfit are the goggles, and that simply doesn't cut it.
Pose: It's a pretty dull photo, but that's what happens when you decide to pose with a ball... It definitely wasn't the wisest choice. There was almost nothing you could've done to make this look like a fashion shot unless I chose a picture of you actually standing ON the ball, but then it would've just looked confusing. I think this is another decent performance from you, but it is definitely your weakest photo so far in this competition.
Up next is Savon
Whole Critique: I am very perplexed with this photo. The issue is, you did nothing wrong. You mimicked the colour palette greatly, and it does look Avant Garde... yet I still don't like it! I'm not totally sure why. I think it's because I find the outfit to be very wrongly quixotic. I think it stands out for all the wrong reasons. I honestly cannot think of ONE fashion house or clothing line where I could hand them this photo and say "Yes hello I'd like to put this in your collection." As much as I love the ombre, the head accessories, and the blue trimmings, I think the main problem isn't your outfit, but the furni itself. You picked a furni with hideous, tacky colours and when you replicated it, even though the outfit is designed with care, it still comes out looking bad.
Pose: I'm not a fan of this pose. In fact, 4/5 of your frames were of this same pose. All you did was the same dance, facing front. The result is an uninspiring photo. You're not connecting with the furni, or the viewer. On your last frame I suggested that you get close to the furniture and you sort of just moved one space forward. I was hoping you'd get RIGHT IN there and interact straight-on with the furni, but you were avoiding it like the plague.

Next we have Lauren

Whole Critique: I like this outfit for all the wrong reasons. When I look at the outfit my eye instantly goes to the red necklace, and the ebb and flow of the cape. However my favourite part of the outfit is the sleek, simple white middle. That's a problem because the texture of the furni is jagged and cracked. I think it's a great outfit but it doesn't really convey the furniture all that well. I loved the high diva heels because it is a simple addition that lifts the whole outfit to a high-fashion standard, but I also wish I saw more of the light blue design. This outfit just leaves the door wide open for a tampon joke.
Pose: I like the motion shot, but it's sort of hard to admire the shape of the outfit when it's like this. However I REALLY like how your right hand is luckily pushed back because it looks like you're harnessing the cape as you're stomping away.
Kara is next

Whole Critique: Kara, I am trying mightily hard to like this outfit but I just can't. I love the idea of using a white furni with a small dash of colour because then the possibilities are endless, but you didn't embrace it at all. The biggest problem I have with this outfit is the front. I don't like how all of the textures and designs seem like they were selected at complete random, and slapped onto the canvas. You can go Avant Garde without going all outrageous and overkilling your design, because at the end of the day you're up here lookin' like you wrapped yourself in toilet paper. I liked the accessories on the head because it looks mysteriously adroit, and I like the blue on the shoes, but other than that the other 80% of the outfit is below par.
Pose: Your modelling was mediocre, you didn't really take any risks. This photo is very flat. I chose this pose as your best because along with the white tones, it could be symbolic to "breaking free" or "spreading your wings" but then again I didn't design this outfit so I can't speak for your intentions.
Skye is next up

Whole Critique: At first glance I was not a fan. You look like one of those cheap Vegas strippers who emerge from a flower or a wedding cake. But the more I carefully study your textures, the more I uncover about how well you understood the task. It's a frilly gown which I think, despite a brash colour palette, is still very beautiful. The use of the crown headwear was plotted perfectly because it sort of sums up the entire palette of the furni, just on a smaller scale. My biggest issue was the proportions. I wish there were more pink/purple because it is more prominent in the furni compared to the blues and greens. That being said, this is another strong performance from you.
Pose: The photo is intriguing because you were the only one this week who was daring enough to stack a chair on set to pose ON the furni. The photo is really ingenious, but your modelling after that was bland. A lot of your poses were the same; doing the same dance with your Habbo facing head-on at the camera. Next time I want you to mix it up a bit.
Second last is Valentina

Whole Critique: Wow wow wow... Val, did you honestly design this? It's really cool. As most of you know, I am a huge sucker when it comes to couture gowns. So when someone does it with all of the technical aspects nailed, inventive layouts, a cohesive colour palette with the furni, AND a matching haunted theme, I just gotta give props. My only concern is the dark blue on the necklace. It is a beautiful part that harmonizes the outfit, but I don't really see blue on the furniture unless you're trying to feather out the grey shade. I am willing to let it slide because it totally completes the outfit and gives it almost a steampunk vibe. The fact that you're able to take a NJB outfit (necklace jacket belt) and turn it around into something so unique is truly triumphant.
Pose: I really like the pose with your arms spreaded because it makes me think of a creepy crow flying away, which makes sense because I would expect to see a murder of crows sitting atop this furniture attached to a dark, eerie castle. This is definitely your best performance yet.
And lastly is Jack

Whole Critique: This is photo evidence that you didn't thoroughly read and understand the task. I like the outfit because it has a glossy high-fashion, posh essence about it, but here's my issue: where do you see orange on the furni? Where do you see beige? Also the bulk of your outfit is a light brown which is heavily unrealistic to the proportions. I'm sorry if it sounds like I am getting all wound up over the colours, BUT THE COLOURS WERE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE TASK! That and the Avant Garde originality. I said above that I liked the outfit, but then again there's nothing really new or captivating about it. It's just a cool piece. I look at it and think "Oh neat," when I should be thinking "Oh WOW look at that!" Now I'm stuck judging a mediocre outfit with a dishonest colour palette.
Pose: I like the photo of you standing straight because it looks like you're trying to duplicate the furniture's tall stiff stature. But the majority of your photos were a bit distant; you seemed to be afraid of getting too close to the furniture and it was a bit difficult to photograph because the furniture itself is already big. I wish you were more careful and assiduous when playing this game because this whole performance just looks like you don't even care.
