TASK #1
Madness
Minimalism
for
Meet My
There is beauty in simplicity. Over the years, I have grown to really love Minimalism. Whether it’s paintings, photography, architecture, or fashion, there is an assertive confidence in an artist’s ability to say a lot with only a little. I especially love minimalism in Habbo fashion because it tells me exactly how confident a designer is. It takes a strong conviction of one’s abilities to submit an outfit with minimal colours and textures, whereas a less confident designer who doubts their artistic abilities tends to add clutter to compensate for lack of a vision.
Hello, cast of Season 10!
Congratulations on being chosen!
Your first task is below. Good luck.
For your first task of Season 10, I want you to design a minimalist outfit. I want a runway outfit that grabs my attention while using a minimal amount of colours and textures. Now let me be clear, this isn’t simply a “design an outfit with less items” type task. Minimalism is an actual art philosophy, not an item amount. I want to be able to look at your outfit and know you understand minimalism. The number of items you use to make your outfit has no bearing on whether the final product is minimalism. To help guide you, I have included some example photos scattered around the page. Hopefully you can still see that even though these outfits are simple, they are whole creative pieces and they command your attention. None of them are boring and lack spectacle, but they’re also not jumbled or overdressed.

This is actually a very easy task. If you find it difficult, then it means your understanding of design may have been corrupted by years of worrying about over-accessorizing, and comparing your art to other people. This is a great opportunity to purge those negative preconceptions; to get in touch with your inner artistic voice, and create something simple, yet simply sublime. Design a minimal outfit that only YOU would dare to. I want to see who you are as an artist in this first task.

Hello & welcome to your first panel of Season 10!
Thank you to everybody for submitting on time.
Minimalism proved to be quite the challenge for a lot of you, and I appreciate that you persevered through your judgment and submitted stuff you aren't totally comfortable with. Minimalism is so misunderstood and underappreciated in this medium, and so I hope this task marks a change in the tides in regards to how PR outfits are not only designed, but also judged. A small part of me dies a little inside when I see really talented people assume they need 15 items in order to convey their artistic vision.
The majority of you did great this week, and so the top 6-7 placements can get a bit skewed when there is so little separating everybody from each other. You're all great designers who are accustomed to scoring in the top for every task whenever you play short-terms, so we need to put our egos aside and remind ourselves that this is an extremely talented cast, and (probably) none of you are going to be in the Top 3 every single week, and that's okay. I'm here to challenge you, not to blow you.

*Outfits are always judged in order of submission

This was a Minimalism task and I struggle to see how any part of this outfit could be interpreted as minimal. Your use of the retro black is causing items to merge into each other to the point where I have no idea what I'm even supposed to be looking at. Are the thick vertical black lines supposed to be suspenders? Are your bottoms one piece with the top? Is this a giant nightgown with a square cut in the middle? Is your crotch a black hole? Your footwear's scrunched fabric is at odds with the sharp angles of every item above, and it comes across as an oversight, not an attempt at contrasting fabrics. I like the sporty racecar aesthetic of this outfit, but ultimately it just looks like you misunderstood the task completely. I wish you asked for outfit advice because I would have told you not to submit this.

Marq (Aivn)

Elephant in the room: the bunny slippers! I actually don't mind them. Minimalism is all about giving spectacle with as little as possible, so to capture my attention with just the selection of your shoe is actually peak minimalism. I would never wear them, nor can I imagine them in a runway setting, but as an art piece, it nails this task. I really love the idea of maximalizing texture on the top half, only to have the bottom half run off completely textureless. However, one can argue the top half is too textured for a minimalist task. I would remove the stethoscope, it isn't needed. Besides that, this is a pretty lovely outfit. the gold chain and crochet bikini top are a lovely combination. A decent start to this competition, but I know you're capable of much more. Good luck.

Alan (Alanio)

It's been over ten years since I last judged one of your outfits in a long-term setting. A lot has happened since Season 3. One thing that hasn't changed however, is your iron clad understanding of tasks. Given your passion for anything art, as well as your extensive education, it came as no surprise that you understood this task flawlessly. The decision to go all white is always dangerous, but for me it was a no-brainer for this task and I'm disappointed more people didn't follow suit. The loose, drooping top that shows all too much of the model's chest before it is tied into the norm dress by way of the retro waist accessory is so simple yet so sublime. I do wish the waist accessory had less texture because it creates an optical illusion where it seems to stick out like a kangaroo pouch. Even though I liked the blue shoes better, I equally enjoy the bright brown which lends an air of industrialism to the otherwise gentle outfit. Really strong start to this season, well done.

SECRET CONTESTANT UNLOCKED

I'm very grateful you decided to resubmit because your original outfit missed the point of minimalism by quite a vast margin. This outfit however, is far more appropriate for this task. Using the ombre wearable shirt to flare out the waist and give the gown that upper trim of extra fabric was really smart, and a great way of adding detail to a minimal outfit without the clutter. The top + torso bandage combo is simple but very pleasant, and it doesn't take a stretch of the imagination to see this on a runway. You may have struggled at first, but you came out of this task with a very firm grasp of understanding minimalism and that's really all I could ask for. My only issue with this outfit is that I find the two main colours to be at odds with each other. I normally love that shade of green, but the loud purple wasn't my favourite combo. Besides that, this outfit is serviceable.

Becca (oyt)

There is an ashen smudge in the centre of your outfit that I find really distracting. The waist bandage accessory you used is bloodstained and has two colour options; I don't know if you knew that or not. If the smudge was an intentional choice then that's... unfortunate... because now it just looks like your model was eating some greasy calamari and some of it hit her lap. That being said, you understood minimalism really well this week. I love the vertical rectangle shape of this outfit. The fluffy, carpet-like texture of the dress is oddly satisfying and I love that you didn't interrupt it with anything. I wish your top half wasn't so fabric heavy; I would have used a slimmer belt to show off more of the splotch pattern top, and perhaps delete the neck accessory entirely. There is a solid foundation of a great minimalist outfit here, it just needed to be refined more. Overall, not a bad start.

Nicole (nicrobbo95)

Minimalism doesn't mean unremarkable or pedestrian. Any good Habbo PR outfit has some sort of visual spectacle that intrigues, and makes you want to keep looking. This task was exactly that: give me a visual spectacle, just do it with minimal clutter and detail. While this outfit is 100% undoubtedly minimal, it doesn't pack a punch, nor is it using minimal fabrics to highlight an interesting shape I've never seen before. It's especially disappointing because white + green is one of my favourite colour combinations! Going forward, you have to ask yourself what you can do to set yourself apart from the cast. What can you do to your outfits that makes them indistinguishably a KYLE creation? Because let's be real, anybody could have designed this. I hope you let your artistic voice speak louder in future tasks.

Kyle (KSkins)

To make a minimal outfit with that coat is not easy, and frankly I don't think it was pulled off. I would die to see this outfit without the coat, because I think you have some interesting textures in your blouse and gown. Your grasp on this task was strong, and you knew exactly what to add to complement what you had. Your analogous red/orange palette is nice too. Again, I just wish it wasn't all sacrificed into the swallowing crimson abyss that is that coat. It's a versatile item that I know you love to work with, but there is a time and place for everything. Any conceivable ode to minimalism in your outfit is being weighed down - figuratively and literally - by the coat. The shape of the outfit is totally bastardized. There are essences of a solid idea, and if weren't for the one item, I would be scoring this pretty highly. But, said one item is a significant fraction of your canvas.

Peyton (Peyton125)

Sporty! There is something charming about pastel track pants and running shoes finding their way onto my runway, and somehow I don't utterly abhor it. While the retro pitch black certainly would not be my approach, I can't argue that it doesn't give an uncanny inpracticality to the upper bodice that plays an almost Avant Garde yin to the sporty yang underneath. It's weird as hell and I love it. The shoulder fabric thing, whatever it is, is adding just enough spectacle and visual consistency without being too gaudy. It has an air of nonsensical to it, which I feel is a valuable trait in minimal outfits, so long as it's not too outlandish. This tells me that you’re ready to take risks and bring yourself to the edge of uncertainty in order to hone your skills. Well done!

Sarah (Sparkle)

This is your strongest start to a long-term, ever, that I'm aware of. This outfit is fantastic. I watched a miracle be birthed when you showed me what your upper torso looked like without the unnecessary backpack straps. Then, you add the triangle graphic which transitions into the shirt flawlessly. The white box pants are lovely, and the colour palette in tandem with the stylish eyewear makes me think of some late '90s sci-fi heist movie. The only bit I don't love are the sandals because I feel having the shoe colour be more visible would have served nicer. Regardless, this outfit is a homerun. I predicted you would struggle hard with this task, but if you did, it certainly didn't show in your final product.

Elysse (LC22)

This is one of the most runway ready outfits I've seen from you, and that's impressive seeing as how you utilized some really untraditional fabrics. The top half of this outfit looks rough, fuzzy, frilly. Then the skirt looks tight and sleek, it's giving uncomfortable model trying to dig the satin out of her asscrack. Here at Snawlterm, we love embarrassing, painful ass crack invasions mid-show. Hopefully someone in the house packed some Vaseline! Anyway back to the clothing... you have probably my favourite shoe-to-outfit pairing of the week. I love these brown Italian leather dress shoes. They are so eye-grabbing despite being literally one item, and this is the best task to get away with it because it's all about grabbing my attention with as little showmanship as possible. My only recommended change would be to add a bit more flare in the colour palette because you have some really nice details that are a bit lost in the sauce. Regardless, you have every right to be proud of this submission.

Rae (saffrons)

In ten seasons of Snawlterm, this outfit right here is my favourite Week 1 submission, ever. What the hell... I find it baffling that someone as nervous and confused as you just submitted something so pure, so unadulterated in its presentation. This outfit is actually flawless. Green + blue is such a difficult combination to use in Project Runway because it naturally looks so camp, but your foresight to relegate the blue only to the heels is nothing short of genius. That big, blobby shirt was a huge risk in a minimal task because it expands the canvas in a very messy way, but your decision to colour it bold and leave the top half free from accessories is actually incredible. It is the one and only way to make it work and somehow you found it. The belt commemorating the dress is so cute too. I have no criticisms or feedback; any suggested change would only taint this masterpiece. Phenomenal work, Lob. Now that you see you're capable of greatness, I hope your confidence levels up a bit.

Elobstabeth (lobsterbiscc)

Out of all the maximal/minimal outfits submitted this week, this one is my favourite because the texturized top half still looks filtered through a minimal lens. You're using closely related fabrics with cohesive shapes to give the impression the three yellow items are an explosion of unrestrained cloth. The facial band-aid was a cheeky but fun way of helping extend the canvas to include the head. This outfit begs for a plain head the most out of everyone so I'm happy to see you had the sense to go bald. The top half is so masterfully constructed that the bottom half could literally be any colour (except black) and it would still look fabulous, but I like that you settled on a conventional khaki. This outfit is unapologetically you, while simultaneously showing me something I've never seen before, so great work.

Mickey (Player)

Interesting. I normally dislike receiving sideways outfits in my long-terms, but this was an adventurous week to use it because the angle helps breathe mystery into items that may otherwise be common. The top half of this outfit is giving this chaotic, almost biological pattern like a cow's print. I dig it. Your lower half extinguishes my excitement a bit, sadly. I've never seen that shoe + dress pants combination from the side before, and now that I am looking at it, I can see why, because the way the shoes fail to meet the pantlegs is a bit jarring. It's giving old lady cankles. Had you used a larger, more dramatic shoe, I think that could have helped save the bottom half and keep it exciting while also not losing focus of minimalism. Overall though, a nice submission. You probably could have gotten away with a more flashy colour palette too, but I'll never say no to black & white.

Lusealiya (SealChowderr)
Picking only three outfits to celebrate in the top this week is very challenging because I absolutely adored everybody in the top 6. Ultimately I am going with Elysse (LC22), Sarah (Sparkle), & Elobstabeth (lobsterbiscc) whose three outfits impressed me greatly. As for the winner, I am giving it to the one designer whose outfit I literally cannot stop thinking about since they submitted, and that person is . . . . . Elobstabeth (lobsterbiscc)! Extraordinary work, you three.
Week 1
Top 3

The Bottom
Sadly, three of you did not impress me. In no special order, the Bottom 3 are. . . .
Marq

I enjoy this outfit a lot... but I don't enjoy that you submitted it for a minimalism task.
Kyle

With the exception of the gloves, this outfit looks really casual. There is no interesting twist or textural marvel for me to chew on.
Peyton

It's the coat, Peyton. It's 100% the coat. I'm sorry. It just limits your canvas too much while also ruining the silhouette.
The Designer I Am Eliminating Is...
No One!
Okay guys, to be honest, this season was supposed to have 14 designers, and I planned the whole timeline to accommodate that number. Sadly however, Adam (Galaxis) had to bow out due to personal reasons, and I couldn't find a 14th person who was interested in playing in time. So to keep this game on my road plan, I've decided to eliminate nobody for Week 1!

Marq, Kyle, Peyton, this task was hard. It flipped everything we know about Habbo fashion on its head.
I don't blame any of you for struggling. Congratulations, you three have survived to design another day.
I want everybody who plays this season to learn something, and it's hard to teach people when you eliminate them after only one task. I want you three to shake off this week, and get into whatever mindset you need to, to succeed. You each have just as much a chance of winning as the ten contestants who ranked above you. I don't care about track records.
Moving forward, each week will see at least one designer go home! Good luck.
