TASK 6 - All That Glitter Ain't Gold
Week Six
Task

*Please note: I tend to design these example photos in less than five minutes. They are NOT a reflection of the quality of outfits I expect from you. Please try to beat my example photos every week, otherwise you will have a difficult time at panel.
Congratulations final 9! We started with 16 hopeful designers and now we're almost at the halfway mark!
For your 6th task, I want you to design an outfit inspired by renaissance paintings of religion and/or religious imagery, and filter it through a modern lens. That means I don't want it to literally blend into the times, but instead be an obvious reference. I should look at it and think, "Oh yeah, that's a renaissance inspired outfit" with obvious Catholic ties without being an outdated CC outfit. And no, you don't need to pick one single photo. It can be a general aesthetic outfit.
*Twist: On top of that, you must evoke opulence and an excessive amount of wealth with your outfit. I used gold in my example, but feel free to get more creative and use other forms of jewelry. The wealth doesn't have to be sparkly, it can be dirty pirate riches.
The due date for this task is Tuesday the 23rd.
Good luck, and as always, reach out to me if you have questions or concerns.
p.s. I know the Indian clothing just came out and you all are excited to use it. Keep in mind that this is a eurocentric task alluding to western Catholicism. I wouldn't use too many eastern fabrics if I were you.

Panel
Hello & welcome to your 6th panel. Hopefully you've read the pop-up notice for this page, and you fully understand the Elimination Nullifier I am implementing for this week only. It will not happen again.
I apologize for the almost week long delay. I had to work overtime, and I also encountered a family issue that required me to take extra time off from my computer. But all is well, this game will continue to chug along. Nothing new beyond that. So once again, thank you all so much for your patience & understanding. It is a load of stress off my back to know I have a reasonable cast who listens to me and respects when I need extra time off. I truly appreciate it!
With all being said, let's judge some outfits and put this ridiculous week to a close.

SNAWL: I’m very happy you chose to resubmit, because this outfit is much better than your initial submission. I really enjoy how you are using large clothing articles that already have pre-set schematics, and covering up certain details with accessories to reinvent them. I dislike these items on their own, but in this outfit they are tolerable. The muddy palette with reprieves of gold is very pleasing to the eye. I also really enjoy your head accessories; the glasses and avant garde aesthetic gives off this snobbish “I’m rich so I’m better than you” vibe which really helps sell the opulence. This is your strongest outfit in quite a long time, and I hope you continue down this path. Thanks, Peter.

SNAWL: I think you tried too hard to modernize this outfit instead of letting it sing in its respective task. The decision to expose your legs, sleeves, and brandish a goofy hat that duplicates the colour palette of the bodice instead of shining on its own – all of this contributes to this looking more like a costume. On the positive, I love your golds. Your overall colour palette is captivating and I am immediately drawn in… even if it is just to be disappointed upon examining your clothing choices. This isn’t a horrible outfit, but I think there were many smarter ways of handling this task.
zechariah

SNAWL: This is another second-rate sideways outfit that does not benefit from the angle you chose at all; I fail to find any justification behind it. When an outfit is generic, the problem is with the fundamental layout, not the angle you see it from. Every article of clothing you’re wearing is something I’ve seen presented in this angle before. The bottom half is drab, and the veil seems obnoxious. I really enjoy the layering on the sleeve of your raised arm, but the other 93% of the outfit doesn’t match that impact at all. I do love your colour palette though, and I am drawn to the shiny golds and how they run like rivers down the canvas. You’re partaking in THREE longterms while simultaneously hosting your own, and it leads me to ask, are you exhausted? Because I’d rather see you excel in one LT than scrape by in three. If I get another superfluous sideways outfit with no innovation, I’ll relieve you of Season 7 so you can focus your attention elsewhere. You’re better than this, Zechariah.

SNAWL: Although most of your canvas is barren, I am head-over-heels for your gold jewelry and how you’ve clustered it on your upper back like that. It took me a few minutes to evaluate your outfit and realize how you achieved such a graphic. Your entire colour palette is beautifully dirty, just like what I expect from a renaissance task. The subtle shade shift on the dress is gorgeous, even if 98% of people would never notice it… I notice (& appreciate) it. You also get props for using the Indian top in a way that doesn’t butcher the European aesthetic. I don’t know what to say Filip, except you’ve impressed me for the sixth week in a row. Amazing work, but don’t slow down!

SNAWL: Your colours are utterly ravishing, but I wonder if this was the task for them, especially since the goal of the task was renaissance Catholicism, and not renaissance in general. Your layout is cute and I enjoy the red trims on the blue lower bodice, but I’d be lying if I pretended that this layout presented backwards was anything but overdone. I see it every time a shortterm is hosted. As for your jewelry, while it is appropriate, I think the combination of a gold necklace with shimmering earrings was a little too on-the-nose for this task. A more creative conveying of opulence would’ve served you better. Not really impressed with this, but not completely repulsed either. A missed shot.

SNAWL: I don’t see renaissance, I don’t see Middle Age Catholicism, and I don’t see gross opulence. What exactly was your thought process behind this? If you didn’t struggle to get Uhu to submit a photo for you, I would assume you were tired of playing and were trying to be eliminated. The outfit itself is quite good, I like the vibrance and youth, and I admit I can see a bit of where the task might’ve rubbed off. But besides that, this is completely foreign to what I was wanting from you this week. There are outfits submitted by you in previous tasks that would have likely fared better in this task, than this. This isn’t the first time you’ve bypassed a task in this game either. Nobody else does it so I know it’s not a fault of my wording. What is left to do? Where do I go with you, Lee? Do I keep you in this game to repeat the same mistake a 4th time, or do I cut you loose despite having the most potential out of everybody here?
zach

SNAWL: In terms of aesthetic, you captured it better than most did this week. However you run into trouble when one begins to look at this as a fashion piece. When you’re dealing with excessive layering to this degree, you really need to play with shapes, silhouettes, and graphics to make it justified. Otherwise you run the risk of coming off as a CC outfit. While the excessive layering is certainly appropriate for this task, this execution is very milquetoast and forgettable. This is like a cheaper, less impressive interpretation of Zechariah’s Week 3 outfit. And I’m not a fan of the green shoes either. You grasped the task perfectly, but fumbled at making an interesting outfit.
amina

SNAWL: Outstanding. You harnessed every rule and guideline of this stupid, shitty task, and you incorporated it into a character garment without losing any identity or style. This outfit is as beautiful as it is accurate. The blue shoes are so sassy and unexpected, and they play off the deep burgundy so well. I love the white from the maid blouse which might be my all-time favourite usage of it, and those round cup shoulders in tandem with the burgundy ruffle neck hammer home renaissance harder than any other outfit this week. This outfit illustrates how much of a technician you are with fabrics. Splendid work!
avery

SNAWL: An interesting concept that is immediately sullied by the overbearing wedding gown. That gown is PR poison because of how it just eats up half the canvas. You need to either work around it to make sure the bottom half is original, or you need an intricate top half… unfortunately you’ve accomplished neither. You’re also not using any head accessories, which isn’t a good decision when you’re dealing with a limited canvas that is already cut in half by your choice of gown. On more positive notes, I enjoy your colour palette, and that necklace is a guilty pleasure of mine. Is that enough to salvage this outfit? Not even close. P.s. Since when the hell does your model have long hair?
