TASK 4 - Obligatory Music Videos

Week Four

Task

Final twelve, you've made it to the music videos! For those unaware, it is an upheld tradition in all PR LTs that Week 4 is a music video impromptu task. Below, you will find four music videos that I've selected. You must choose one of them to design an outfit for, based off the fashion, theme, tone, & aesthetic. There is a limit of three designers per video, so once you read this, you must quickly watch the videos, make your decison, and claim the video.
How to claim a video:
Message me on Habbo.com, doesn't matter if I'm online or not. Whoever sends their message first gets the video. Those who act quick will have first dibs, however you cannot switch once you've chosen, so make sure you think your decision through carefully.
Zechariah's Advantage
Because Zechariah won last week's task, his advantage is simple: He has the power to switch two people's videos without their consent. Even if they've already submitted their outfit, Zechariah can switch them and make them resubmit. There are three potential ways to play this power:
1. Zechariah can leave the videos as is
2. Zechariah can switch himself with someone who has a video he wants
3. Zechariah can switch two other people, ultimately hampering their performances this week
The deadline for this task is Thursday, June 4th. As for Zechariah's special power, it must be used by Sunday May 31st, otherwise it becomes null. As always, good luck designers, feel free to reach out to me regarding questions or concerns.

Some Rules

To make this week more difficult and to truly test the resourcefulness of the designers, I am prohibiting abnormal poses for this task. This extends to all poses that are not straight on, or slightly to the left/right.
61Brian.png

ALLOWED - Straight on

66Harri.png

ALLOWED - To the side

BANNED - Backwards

BANNED - Sideways

BANNED - Literally anything that isn't one of the top two

I am also prohibiting motion poses for this week, which includes poses achieved from walking. I will however allow poses achieved while standing still (IE dancing, waving, etc).

Panel

Welcome to the panel of Week 4! First & foremost, thank you to everybody for your munificent patience! This week was delayed by almost 4 days due to my work schedule, as well as a few personal events. But I'm back on track and ready to get this game rolling again!
Once again the quality of outfits this week have dipped in comparison to previous weeks. I'm not shocked nor ashamed, because history indicates that the music video task tends to trip up most designers in every season it is deployed. The fact that so many amazing designers still struggle with this week is a testament to how necessary it is, and why it should happen in every season. I noticed that the designers who excel in this task are [usually] the ones who make it furthest in this competition.
This week features another double elimination. This is due to me being overly generous and casting 16 people; we have some catching up to do if we want to be finished by August. So once again we are saying goodbye to two designers.
I want to remind everybody that this is a high-stakes game filled with amazing talent, and that this is an extremely tight race. The only people who are entitled to be upset are the ones eliminated. Please don't dwell if you didn't get a high enough placement you think you deserve.
Because he won last week's task, Zechariah had a very interesting advantage this week... which he chose not to use. How boring!!
With everything said & done, let's trash some outfits!

Grimes - Delete Forever

SNAWL: This outfit flounders hard for me. I see nothing remotely interesting or innovative happening, except maybe the “flower headpiece” effect with the exposed brain, but I must say it doesn’t convey the idea you were hoping it would. I feel like you committed yourself to designing a gown with the towel, and just forced any accessory you could and coloured it according to the background. 7/12 of the contestants tried claiming a spot in this video; you had the most in-demand video prompt and did almost nothing with it. I love you as a designer and as a person, but this is simply too generic for this competition. I’m sorry, Jared.

Starring . . .  Jared, Jenna, & Amina

ICEARBR: Having a hard time connecting with this design. I do think the idea behind it could've worked if it was executed differently. It looks as if you deliberately chose the wrongest of colours to fill in the silhouette.

SNAWL: I’m really enjoying the creative liberties you took this week with your outfit. I see at least four (maybe five?) daring risks, and I can legitimately say none of them fell flat. I love how the outfit goes from frilly to straight when you examine from top to bottom. You look like a high-fashion space explorer, and you’re balancing camp with couture down to the molecule; too much in either direction would spell disaster, but you avoided doing so. As for an improvement, I would’ve liked to see more colour variety. Either way, really good job. This is the only “strong” showing of this week.

jenna

ICEARBR: This is the one design I did like the most out of the whole roaster of the week. A solid idea with a strong graphical presentation. That being said I strongly believe you could've edited this further to enhance it by skipping any deliberate headpiece and just keeping it simple to make the outfit stand out.

SNAWL: While I don’t love this outfit, it woefully is one of the bests this week. Your colour palette is both refreshing and ethereal, two themes I see in the video. You have almost an ombre effect on the jacket by using such a light colour which seamlessly ties into the skies. The representation of loose fabric (hood, skirt) was appropriate as well. My biggest complaint is the abundance of black; while I normally hate that coat and must admit you’re working the hell out of it, I would’ve liked to see a crevice of colour in the middle underlayer. But you succeeded nonetheless, good work.

amina

Week4Amina.png

ICEARBR: A vivid display of colour blending, stuck in a silhouette that doesn't spark any excitement in me. I believe you could've elevated this further with some choice editing.

SNAWL: Your concept was creative and I was enticed greatly by it, but the result is a bit barren and restrained. I love the dominating white, but I would’ve also loved to see at least some colour somewhere. I feel like this could’ve been a winning outfit had you just stewed with it in the wardrobe for 30 minutes longer, mixing & matching more courageous items. On a positive note, your choice of fabrics are very fitting, cohesive, and allude nicely to the first evil clown depicted in the video. Awesome concept, somewhat forgettable execution. Thanks Kaytie.

kaytie

ICEARBR: I do appreciate the effect of the wraps texture playing all over the design but nothing else works to enhance that. The design choices clash with each other and it overall gives us an unappealing presentation.

SNAWL: Tony Kabal’s outfit in the video is very unsusceptible to change; it’s literally a white tux which makes it quite unforgiveable in the realm of Habbo fashion. And as expected, you didn’t do enough to lift this to a higher standard. I see where you tried with incorporations of black, but it still reads costume-y more than anything. The brown heels however are lovely, and I do enjoy the usage of the tight, striped undershirt. There are some little nuggets of creativity, and you are most certainly on par with the video, but it still fails to stand out in a high stakes fashion competition. Sans the heels, it could just be any other outfit from any menswear task in a shortterm. I know you Avery, and I know you’re a lot better than this outfit.

avery

Week4Avery.png

ICEARBR: An ok design for a casual outfit to wear in welcome lounge. It's missing that spark of creativity and sophistication that comes with our specific brand of habbo fashion.

JudgeSnawl.png
Arber.webp

SNAWL: WOh Zach… I sincerely wish you submitted the first outfit you walked onto set with. Sure it was derivative, but at least it made sense with the video, unlike this. The layout is really basic and can be appropriated into any task with simple changes to the colours; you are not using any of the showy clown fabrics in the video, nor are you paying homage to the grimy fashion worn by the musicians. The red + green with exposed legs give an almost “Santa’s naughty helper” aesthetic one would expect to see in a Christmas porno. Your upper bodice fabrics are cool and I am impressed you whipped them together in such a short amount of time, but that of course cannot be taken into consideration. This was a catastrophic week for you. I don’t know if you’ll be able to pull yourself out of this rut.

zach

Week4Zach.png

ICEARBR: A nice presentation on palette and graphics. From a design standpoint I do enjoy the top a lot. What I'm having trouble with is connecting this design with the video you're representing.

Natalia Kills - Mirrors

Starring . . .  Filip, Zechariah, & Peter

SNAWL: This outfit by itself is pretty good, and I am intrigued by the shape. You’re also one of the very few designers who can continuously work with fishnets without looking cheap. The gray toning and the faded green on the shoes are both great creative decisions that keep the outfit modern. However, when I compare this to the video, it doesn’t hold up as strong. The flayed out skirt and chest bow both read juvenile to me, which I did not get from the music video at all. I think you could have won this task if your fabric choices were more in line with the fashion in the video. It’s a good outfit but it doesn’t convey the video as clearly as it could have. Thank you Filip.

Filip

Week4Filip.png

ICEARBR: A solid attempt on design and detailing which I would enjoy if not the lack of excitement in the overall application on its design. Not the worst of the week but also not the best.

JudgeSnawl.png
Arber.webp

SNAWL: This is another typical “black plus neon colour” outfit that lacks any sort of technical ingenuity, and I see almost no relation to the video. Those binoculars are horrid and I’ve yet to see anybody work them correctly in a head-on outfit. The silhouette on your upper body is interesting and I think had you feathered the colours out more evenly, it could have been quite magical. I don’t really understand where your creative process was taking you with this, I just see mediocrity. This is a humungous step down from your previous phenomenal outfit.

zechariah

Week4Zechariah.png

ICEARBR: A keen display of layering and composition. Some might find the shape of the design abnormal and unsettling but I personally adore creations that beat the curve and show us something new.

Arber.webp
JudgeSnawl.png

SNAWL: You were on the right track: your theme with this outfit is spot-on with the video, and I love that you had the fearlessness to use the leather jacket. However I find that the tone of the video is lost completely with your addition of the dress. It wouldn’t be as egregious if it was just from the waist down, but it clashes completely with the leather jacket and just reads as a poor designing decision. The entire fabric simply torpedoes any success your outfit had. I don’t have anything else to say, it was one flaw but it’s a massive one. What a shame. Thanks, Peter.

peter

Week4Peter.png

ICEARBR: If anyone could appreciate the deliberate use of glitches on designs, it would be me. But in your case the glitch does absolutely nothing for the outfit and the overall shape is very unflattering.

Anjulie -Stand Behind The Music

Starring . . .  Samantha, Taylor, & Lee

SNAWL: This outfit excels in relation to your task; you risked looking tacky to stay true to your video’s tone and it was a risk well taken. The outfit has some flaws though. I’m not a fan of how the skirt duplicates the colours on the hat; cohesivity wasn’t a prevalent theme in the video. Arber is correct when he says your torso is mundane too. But your overall style is on point with the video and I don’t have to imagine too hard at all to see this among the protesters. This is a good effort, but with more attention to detail it could have been great. Thanks, Sam.

Samantha

Week4Samantha.png

ICEARBR: A strong apparent idea especially with the way the skirt and cap connect. The torso portion of your design is the weakest link. It fights the rest of the outfit and overshadows it with how mundane it is.

Arber.webp
JudgeSnawl.png

SNAWL: Your colours are beautiful, and that right there is the full extent of positive things I can say about this outfit. Everything else is a major disappointment for me. The biggest flaw is how neatly put together this outfit looks, which is in direct contradiction to the video. The colours, fabrics, and layout are all really cohesive which is not what we wanted at all. Arber is right, I don’t see this outfit justified as longterm material. Nothing interesting or innovative – I constantly forgot whether you submitted or not and had to repeatedly check my downloads, because this outfit is so unremarkable. I love you so much Taylor, and I’m really sorry.

Taylor

Week4Taylor.png

ICEARBR: While I do admire the colour palette, the design shown lacks any design whatsoever. Even an amateur of the game could put this together.

Arber.webp
JudgeSnawl.png

SNAWL: You did a brilliant job at capturing modern youth aesthetics with this outfit. The ripped fabrics and short skirt are excellent catalysts that help integrate yourself into the setting of the video, and the black graphics on the chest are appropriate. It’s really difficult to design an orange + black outfit without giving off a cheap dollar store Halloween costume vibe, and you avoided that entirely, so bravo. My only criticism of this outfit is the overall silhouette not being super interesting, but in a week full of blunders, that is easily forgiven. Everything else about this outfit is on point. Well done, Lee!

lee

Week4Lee.png

ICEARBR: One of the few designs I didn't hate on first glance this week. A strong graphical modeling of the outfit with the blacks and the added contrast of colours.

Conclusion

And now we bid adieu to a week that challenged everyone, including myself. Unfortunately we are experiencing another double elimination, with the departures of both Taylor & Jared. The two of you have proven yourselves as extraordinary designers, both in this competition and hundreds of times out. I am in the process of rebuilding a PR room, and I would be privileged if either of you frequented it like you both did in the older days. Thank you for bringing your flares to my game!
Congratulations to Jenna who scored this week's sought-after win, and generous applause to Lee & Amina who scooped up Top 3. Your 5th task is uploaded and ready to go, and I am predicting it will piss a lot of people off. :)
Good luck, & get designin'!
